It's funny how you can tell "someone" you're an "asshole" and they'll say that they believe you, only to later throw in your face what an "asshole" you've been. It was just recently that I was hanging out with a special "someone" when I was informed by her that she was surprised at how I hadn't called her after our previous "get-togethers" and how we hadn't become an item.
"But you remember me telling you you weren't going to be my girlfriend and that you were probably going to end up thinking I was an asshole, right?"...
"Yeah, I just didn't really believe you... you're really nice".
"So you remember me telling you I was an asshole, but not believing me only later to realize I was indeed an asshole, at which point you told me point blank that I was an asshole at which point I told you that you should have expected as much, since I had warned you that you were gonna think I was an asshole."
"Uhm... yeah, I think so."
The practice of preparing people for the worst has become superfluous.
